How to read the result

Most savings advice starts with what you can spare. Starting from the target instead tells you whether the deadline is realistic at all.

Give the goal, what you have and how long you have, and this returns the monthly amount that gets you there.

This page is set to Japan and prints JPY. Starts at a 0.3% deposit return. Every figure is a starting point you should overwrite with your own.

Questions people ask

What return should I assume for a short goal?
For anything inside three years, use a deposit or money-market rate — about 0.3% in Japan right now. Equity returns are too volatile to plan a near-term purchase around.
The monthly number is impossible. Now what?
Extend the deadline or lower the goal. Both levers move the monthly figure far more than the assumed return does.
